IDG is the data controller for personal data processed through The Country Member.
Scope
This notice covers:
- the public marketing website (including pricing, features and contact pages);
- account registration, sign-in, password reset and related emails; and
- the private web application and installable progressive web app (PWA), including offline use on your device.
Data we process
Depending on how you use the service, we may process:
- Account data - display name, email address, password hash (we do not store your password in plain text), plan status (Free, Pro or Society), and security events such as sign-in and password reset.
- Playing partner / roster data - names, optional email addresses, handicap indexes, colour tokens and notes you enter for people in your group. Partners may appear on your roster even if they do not have a Country Member account.
- Round and scoring data - courses and tees selected, formats, handicaps used for the round, hole scores, status (draft / in progress / completed), and exported scorecard images or files you generate.
- Course data you create or customise - manual courses, favourites and any corrections you save against a course card.
- Device and session data - session and CSRF tokens, “remember this device” tokens if you choose that option, basic technical logs needed for security and reliability, and approximate connection state for sync.
- Local / offline data - rounds and related data may be stored in your browser (for example via service worker cache or local storage) so you can score without a signal, then sync when you are back online.
- Support communications - emails or calls you send to us.
- Payment data - subscription and billing metadata. Card payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers on our servers.
- Cookies and similar technologies - see Cookies below.
Lawful bases
Under UK GDPR we rely on:
- Contract - to create and run your account, provide the scorecard service, sync data, and manage paid plans you choose.
- Legitimate interests - to process playing-partner details you enter so you can record a multi-player round; to keep the service secure; and to understand and improve the product in a limited way. For roster data, our interest is enabling you to keep a private group scorecard. That is balanced against partners’ privacy: data stays under your account, is not sold, is not used for third-party marketing in Phase 1, and can be corrected or deleted on request. You should only enter partners’ details that you are entitled to use for this purpose.
- Consent - for non-essential cookies and similar technologies, managed through our CookieWise consent tool.
- Legal obligation - where we must keep records for tax, accounting or to respond to lawful requests.
Purposes
We use personal data to:
- provide unofficial golf scoring, Stableford and related formats, including course and playing handicaps calculated in-app;
- let you manage a player roster, courses, rounds and exports;
- support offline entry and later synchronisation;
- authenticate you, protect accounts and prevent abuse;
- send transactional email such as password reset;
- process subscriptions and show plan entitlements;
- respond to support requests; and
- maintain and improve reliability and security of the service.
Handicap figures shown in the app are unofficial. The Country Member does not issue or maintain an official World Handicap System index.
Sharing and processors
We do not sell personal data. We use service providers who process data on our instructions, which may include:
- hosting and infrastructure for the website and application;
- email delivery for transactional messages;
- Stripe for payment and subscription processing (Stripe’s own privacy documentation applies to payment card data);
- CookieWise for cookie consent management; and
- map tile and mapping providers used when a course layout map is shown.
Club and course names identify where you played. Their use does not imply affiliation with or endorsement by any club or governing body.
We may disclose data if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety or integrity of IDG, our users or the public.
International transfers
Some processors may process data outside the United Kingdom or European Economic Area. Where that happens, we take steps so that transfers are lawful, for example using the UK International Data Transfer Agreement / Addendum, EU standard contractual clauses, or another approved mechanism, together with any supplementary measures that are appropriate.
Retention
- Account and rounds - kept while your account is active. If you close your account or ask us to delete your data, we will delete or anonymise personal data unless we must keep it for longer (for example tax or dispute records).
- Security and audit logs - kept for a limited period needed for security, abuse prevention and troubleshooting.
- Offline / device copies - remain on your device until you clear site data, uninstall the PWA, or the app clears cached rounds after sync or deletion.
- Support emails - kept as long as needed to deal with your request and for reasonable follow-up.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you may have the right to:
- access your personal data;
- correct inaccurate data;
- erase data;
- restrict or object to certain processing (including processing based on legitimate interests);
- data portability for data you provided to us, where applicable; and
- withdraw consent for cookies where processing is based on consent (without affecting earlier lawful processing).
To exercise these rights, email support@interlink.digital or use the contact page. We may need to verify your identity. Self-serve export and deletion tools may be added later; until then we handle requests through support.
You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO): ico.org.uk.
Children and juniors
The Country Member is aimed at adults creating accounts for recreational golf scoring. It is not directed at children registering for their own accounts. Where you record a junior playing partner on a roster, use a first name only where practical, and avoid unnecessary contact details.
Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies:
- Essential - needed for security, sign-in, CSRF protection, load balancing or remembering basic preferences required for the site or app to work.
- Non-essential - for example analytics or preference cookies that are not strictly necessary. These are only set if you allow them through our consent banner.
Consent is managed with CookieWise. You can change or withdraw non-essential cookie choices at any time using the CookieWise controls on the site. Blocking some cookies may affect parts of the experience.
